FUNKY LIL' KITCHEN

Casual fine dining, 28 seat indoor and 18 seat oudoor BYOB restaurant offering a seasonal Modern American menu and a center city style of dining in the suburbs. Chef/Owner is Michael Falcone educated at The Restaurant School, PA.

One wanted to shop at the Philadelphia Outlet Mall this past weekend. Knowing that Two would probably cringe at the prospect, he suggested grabbing a nice bottle of wine and trying a restaurant...in Pottstown...with a view of the uplit Limerick Nuclear Power Station? Ah...a date made in heaven ~ or in Pottstown. Despite the dubious buildup, the Funky lil' Kitchen delivered a pleasant overall experience combining an eclectic in a "huh I never thought to try that with pie pans and utensils" decor with a creative menu.

Escargot as a first course featured a smoky, rich blend of flavors. The crab cakes were also very good. Unfortunately a soggy pastry issue pervaded the second course and dessert selections. The spare ribs wellington was a great concept but slipped off the track with underdone crust and a lack luster sauce that might have been better served inside the crust with the dryish, though flavorful meat. The apple tart slid off right behind the wellington with a soggy crust and challenging to chew, though tasty unpeeled apples. The mushroom and brie pasta was a delightfully woodsy blend of wild mushrooms with buttery brie pieces in a believe it or not light sauce. Have a glass of wine or two before you hit the potty...there's a massive mirror right in front of you when you sit down that doesn't leave much to the imagination. Is it worth the trip? Definitely. A restaurant doesn't stay open for six years without serving very good, creative food in Pottstown, Pa for no reason. Just ask for crispy pastry if you order it and the bread pudding is absolutely fabulous. We give it
